www.hotmail.com: Founded by Sabeer Bhatia and Jack Smith, Hotmail was one of the first webmail services on the internet along with Four11’s Rocketmail. It was founded in 1996 as Hotmail initially, until when Microsoft acquired Hotmail in 1997 and it launched it as MSN Hotmail and by the end of the year, it reported more than 8 million users, surprisingly. Later it was rebranded as Windows Live Hotmail as a part of Windows Live suite of products.

The final version of Hotmail was released by Microsoft in October 2011, available in 36 languages. The name “Hotmail” was taken out of all the possibilities to include all the letters “HTML”, the markup language used to create web pages. The initial limit for free storage was 2MB. It ran under Solaris for mail services and Apache on FreeBSD for web services, before being partly given to Microsoft products, using Windows Services for UNIX in the migration path.

Other features include Active view which allows users to interact directly with the contents of the email message that has been received. The calendar is another feature which uses Ajax technology which enables users to and add and drag or drop calendar events from one date to another without reloading the page.

How to create a Hotmail account

Step 1: Go to the Hotmail website, open www.hotmail.com. Link You will be able to find two options on the page; Sign in and Sign up. Click on the Signup option first. If you already have an account in Windows Live, you can just Sign in to it. Myloweslife

Step 2: Once you’ve clicked on the Signup page, you’ll be asked few details about yourself, you must fill in the details and choose a desired username and password to create an account in Hotmail.

Step 3: Enter all your personal information or data and choose a password that is of at least 8 characters.

Step 4: Fill in your contact information as well in case you lose your password or username this information will help you recover your lost information. You can either give your phone number, alternative email address or answer a security question.

Step 5: Select the Country or Region where you belong to and fill in the Zip or Postal code.

Step 6: Write the correct Captcha text to make sure you are not a robot before you can accept the user agreements and get your account.

Step 7: At the bottom of the page, you will find two blue links to Microsoft’s terms of service and privacy policy documents. Click on agree to accept their terms and conditions to create your account.

Step 8: Visit the Hotmail website again and log in to your account with your username and password that you just created.

Password Recovery

If you have forgotten your Hotmail account password, you can use Microsoft Account Recovery Tool to recover or rest your password. You will need to have recovery email or phone number or a verification app associated with your account or be able to answer a few security questions to verify your identity.

You will have to follow these steps to recover your password.

Step 1: You will have to open Outlook home page first. Your account can be logged in through Outlook.com page. You can only recover your account for up to 365 days since the last time you have logged in.

Step 2: After you open the page, click on the Can’t access your account? This can be found beneath the email and password fields.

Step 3: Select I forgot my password and click next for the further process.

Step 4: Enter your email address for which you have forgotten your password and enter the Captcha code to continue.

Step 5: Select the verification method out of the given option to get your account verified. A link will be sent to your alternative email, click on the link to get verified.

Step 6: Your verification code will be either sent to your alternative email or phone number. Once your account is verified, you will be able to reset your password.

Step 7: Create a new password for your account and log in again. Use it to access your Hotmail account from the Outlook.com page to Sign in.
